Christian Dior fall/winter 2007
John Galliano's collection embodied everything a 1940's woman would have in her closet. He opened the show with fox fur trim on the jackets and sleaves of brightly coloured leather and wool jackets , leading to slender wool dresses with tiny waistbelts, and full bodied layered satin skirts. Every model towered on sky high platforms that accentuated the ankle by a delicate ankle strap. Galliano used a variety of colour from brillant yellow and green to pink and violet purple. One of my favourite pieces was an elaborate black-tube cocktail dress with oriental inspired light-pink detail.

Oscar Fashions
Some of my favourite dresses.
1. Anne Hathaway in Valentino -> classic white lace, i love the black bow contrast, however, it's size takes away from the embroidery of the gown.
2. Camron Dias in Valentino -> I love the sleek, crisp cut of the neckline, as well the open- curtain bottom that showcases her gorgeous silver stillettos
3. Cate Blanchette in Armani Prive -> resembles a classic greek goddess
4. Emily Blunt in Calvin Klein -> youthful brillant blue, elegant, and sexy
5. Isla Fisher in Monique Lhuillier-> the forest green stands out against her strawberry blonde locks
6. Jada Pinkett Smith in Carolina Herrera-> brillant, and complimenting colour
7. Rachel Weiss in Vera Wang-> elegant silk, note the hidden taffeta layered train
8. Reese Witherspoon in Nina Ricci -> note the layered chiffon and different purple colour hues
Eye Candy at Louis
What is colourful, cheery, and fun? Louis Vuitton's spring/summer 2007 accessories! Is there a better way to start off a sunny day than with a bright pink heart hair clip holding back your bangs while accenting your outfit? I didn't think so.
1. Sweet monogram pendant
2. Sweet monogram hairclip
3. Mulitcolore pastille key chain
4.Monogram Satin Multicolore Aumônière
Psychedelic Pucci
I love the 60's and I love the 70's so why not blend the trends like Matthew Williamson did for Emilio Pucci's fall/winter 2007 collection. Forget dark and hevay winter clothes..Williamson's first pieces were brillant orange, purple, and pink baby doll dresses, jackets and tights. Pucci swayed from it's original colourful swirl print and focused on more of a geometrical cut of colours and shapes. Some of my favourite pieces were the colourful furs and 70's fringed mini dresses.

Night Out in the City
This outfit is everything you'd want and more for a night of socializing and dancing in a hot club. The skin-tight J brands will have your legs looking miles long and the accent of the blue boot on the black denim adds funky personality. Long or short hair the long earrings add more than bling, use them like you would your hair and fling them while you dance.
1. Mui Mui washed satin top
2. Black J-brand, mid-rise pencil leg jean
3. Marc by Marc Jacobs, waterproof fabric boots in blue
4. Erickson Beamon black Widow earrings
5. Roberto Cavalli lion head bangle
Fur at Fendi 2007
Karl Lagerfield updated Fendi's fur coats with the seasons key note trends. A belted waist, large colar, volumous skirts, and multiple leather pieces. His blend of chinchilla and fox fur creates a unique pattern that not only adds to the visibilty of the textured fur but puts a modern spin on the forever timeless fur jacket. My favourite look is the large jeweled belt, an accessory that can be worn with everything from formal wear to street chic.
Burberry 2007
Instead of sticking with the traditional plaid we all know and love Christopher Bailey looked at Burberry Prorsum's understated logo, the medieval knight on horse and fuelled his creative juices from the mysterious black knight. The sexy, tough fall/winter 2007 collection adds an element of spice that is not a common attribute to the otherwise sophisticated brand. Bailey's youthful flare shines through with his ability to keep Burberry's staple pieces like the trench coat and embellish it with patent leather and metallic studs.

Must See Movie
The critics were not too impressed by George Hickenlooper’s Factory Girl but I was. It is a film on the 60's pop art movement in New York City centered around Andy Warhol's muse, Edie Sedgwick ( my fascination) played by Sienna Miller. The film tells her iconic story of her rise to fame as a NYC socialite and her heart wrenching downfall. The fashion in the film alone will capitivate you, I love 1960's fashion so it was the icing on the cake! Don't let the reviews stop you... go and see for yourself!
A subdued Armani
Such a huge difference can be seen and felt in Georgio Armani's fall/winter 2007 collection from that of D&G and Just Cavalli. Armani's collection is traditional yet innovative. He captures timeless classics such as his legendary jackets and fitted trousers, yet adds a modern spin by patent leather detailing in the collar and waist belt. Platforms were absent and a slew of flats, ballet and pointed toe were paired with his volumous tulip-dresses. I enjoyed his classic black and white tweed jacket and pencil skirt, cocodile-like short, leather jackets, a hooded black sleevless dress and stripped over-the shoulder knit sweater.
Trend alert?? My prediction is the black and pastel coloured glittery sleeve-gloves will be a massive hit this fall. Elegant, evident and modern.
Just Cavalli 2007- UNTAMED
Roberto Cavalli has done a full circle from his soft, feminine spring/summer 2007 collection to powerful, sleek and edgey fall/winter show. Cavalli's models were confident and sexy in leather tube dresses, bright coloured leather gloves, fur boots (fur trimmed booties and fur covered knee-high fur boots).
Avaitors paired with high collared, metallic leather jackets detailed by large buckles in the front created a bike chic look. Femininity was felt through his use of short bubble skirts and wide collared metallic shirts that displayed a thorough amount of skin.
D&G 2007
Dolce and Gabanna's D&G fall/winter 2007 collection was certainly on cue for their younger target market. The collection was primarily centered around leopard print pieces, baby doll chiffon dresses, and large patent totes. A 1970's club wibe was felt with the black velvet tuxedo blazers, long straight hair, beads, platforms and scarfs all reflecting in the mirrored runway floor. Some of my favourite ensembles were:
1. The leopard print chiffon mini
2. The large leopard print, front zippered fur jacket
3. The yellow and gold mini wrap dress, with tons of beads and fur bag.
4. Black and gold stripped tube, with large gold beads.
5. Skinny leopard print pants with crisp white dress shirt.
6. Leopard shorts
7. Red Satin trench with pok-d-dot platforms and red bow.
8. Chiffon floral tube dress, wiht patent leather platform pumps.

Looking for an alternative to black tights and leggings?
I'm a huge fan of leggings and tights of all colours and textures. It does not take a genius to notice that, yes, this trend will not be leaving our drawers any time soon with it's prominence in Spring 07 and Fall 07 collections. A new spin leggings can be seen in Danielle Scutts youthful and funky take on the over-worn trend.
Pictures are from the London East show " A nursery for new talent" as style.com puts it.
Giles Fall 2007
Giles Deacons collection was inspired by a love of nature. His outerwear was bombarded by over-sized, thick cable knit scarfs and head wraps, however, his use of colour grabbed the essence of a fall forest with bright orange, green and brown hues. Feathers decorated everything from head pieces to footwear. The large wool sweaters were not on my list of things to be desired, their bulkiness did nothing to compliment the female form. My favourite pieces were the playful, colourful and texturized evening dresses. Among my favourite was a short, deep rich purple satin cocktail dress with puffy 1800's inspired sleeves and embellished colar.

LONDON Fashion week Begins
The fashionista's of this world will be making their way from NYC to London this week to embrace and review the British designers take on fall fashion. I found many of the shows in NY to be on the conservative side, and rightfully so, with a target audience of the wealthy american socialite. However, it was great to see a fresh colourful street-trendy collection from House of Holland with slogan tee's littered with kitche catch phrases such as "Wham, Bam, Thank you Stam" and "I've got more than a handful for Naomi Campbell".
GREAT accent for skinny jeans and tights!

Mary-Kate's favourite fashion Accessory
J. Mendel fall 2007
Who knew she was on to something?
I have never given Christina Aguilera much credit in the style department but I have to say after reviewing New York's fashion week among these notable trends such as
- dark tights
-large wool collared jackets
- baby doll button-down, wool over-coats
- vibrant pinks, purples, greens, yellows and blues,
- grey dresses galore ( short, fitted, long, flowy, puffy etc)
- variation of hats, leather gloves, ankle booties
- tons of Fur from trim, to accent pieces, to jackets.
- Satin mini dresses
The common trend is RETRO.
I know it was more of an image-revamp for Aguilera than a conscience fashion forward decision.. however, look at these photos over the past year and note the simiarities in J. Mendel's collection as well as the other designers.
I know I ignored big name designers
There were a number of classic american designers showcased at the end of last week during NY fashion week and I chose to ignore the key staples Calvin Klein, and Ralph Lauren. In all honesty their collections did not do much for me.. simple brown, grey, black wool jackets and pant suits.. typical Ralph Lauren gowns, and Calvin Klein tube dress (a Jennifer Anniston favourite). I chose to showcase Sui, Posen, and Tory Burch for their creative wave lengths that embody elegance and innovation in their collections, while playing around with an arrangement of colour palates and textures. I do want to review J. Mendel's collection.. because i fell in love with almost every piece. And i'll do a lil blurb on Badgley Mischka and Marchesa gowns.. for formal wear.
Hot Valentines Night Out on the Town

1. Missoni knitted kimono dress
2. Roberto Cavalli stone and serpent cocktail ring
3. Kenneth Jay Lane hammered disc earrings.
4. VBH Metallic purple envelope clutch
5. Ralph Lauren Collection Vita gold leather sandel

My favourite Grammy Dresses
Christina Aguilera stands out amongst the masses of metallic short dresses in a long Emanuel Ungaro gown, complimented by Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.
Scarlett Johansson looks gorgeous in this short black Monique Lhuiller capped sleeve form fitting dress. With Justin Timberlake's new video "What Goes Around Comes Back Around" debuting Scarlett as the female star role.. she defintely looks the part of a seductress.
p.s. She's wearing the David Yurman Black Onyx Ring I LOVE!
Jessica Simpson in March ELLE
Zac Posen
For a 26 year old designer Zac Posen's fall 2007 collection displays his tailoring talents on a pedastal. With strong cut suits, flowy capes and elogating evening wear his collection is all about class and cut. He creates a lasting impression on a tailored black-suit with a transparent-clack chemise or alternately with an electric-purple silk blouse.
My fav's
1. The black pencil skirt that gathers in the middle creates a sexy, flattering hour glass figure
2. Heart-shaped tweed tube dress is darling, with frontal pleats.. casual or formal... you decide how to wear it.
3. Stunning purple evening dress..gathered shoulder straps emphazize the open collar.
4.MUST HAVE party dress for fall!!! Free-flowing, ballerina-esque green cocktail dress.
5. City Chic. High waisted black, flared pants, with wool cape and sexy long black leather gloves.

Spring Getaway outfit
A Designer who knows her audience
Tory Burch's designs are the perfect vision of what her customers are demanding. For the young, working professional who likes to go out and socialize needs to fill their closet with Tory Burch gold platforms (for fun) and patent leather platform loafers for the office. OR for a luncheon with the ladies a white shift dress paired with white ballet flats and a gold cartigan that ties with a bow.
It may not be inventive but it is THE FLAWLESS blend of easy-chic, modern-classic sportswear informed by the sixties and seventies.
- Attention to how to wear wide-legged jeans with flats! (photo above)
