Style Icon: Marion Cotillard

I was prepared to do an oscar gown post, unfortunately, to be quite honest none of the gowns really intrigued me or deserved to be discussed. Instead I found myself watching one actress who prior to Sunday night (I must admit) had never been on my red carpet radar, Marion Cotillard.

I'm sure most of you know her now due to her Best Actress win for La Vie En Rose. After a little research I found numerous photos of her at events around the world and saw that her French, chicness was not only apparent in her Gaultier Paris Haute Couture gown, Chopard jewelry, and Swarovski clutch at the oscars, but innately present.

french women have that 'je ne sais quoi' ....

Personal Muse: Brigitte Bardot

"She is every man's idea of the girl he'd like to meet in Paris."

Dubbed the icon of female sexuality in the 1950's and 60's Brigitte's style and sex appeal has been remembered and revamped even today. Born in Paris Brigitte started modeling and acting at an early age. By the time she was 15 it became apparent that the camera loved her and her ability to capture the audience with her stunning looks and sex kitten demure propelled her to international fame. Media hordes covered her every move. Brigitte is known for being one of the first female pinups, popularing the bikini and Saint Tropez as a luxurious vacation spot. She as one son and was married a number of times to artists, business men and actors. Currently Karl Lagerfeld modeled his Pre-Fall 2008 show after her.

New Personal Muse: Jane Birkin

I am adding Jane Birkin to my list female muses on the right hand side of my blog.

Jane Birkin emerged in the swinging '60s in London, creating a stir as one of the models in the controversial film Blowup in 1966, in which she became the first actress to reveal pubic hair in mainstream cinema. She met her first husband Serge Gainsbourg a famous French writer, director and singer on the set of her second movie and quickly excelled to international fame as his muse.

Hermès' named and designed the Birkin Bag for her in 1984 after the actress was seen in 1981 by the head of Hermès struggling with several bags while boarding an airplane.

Factory Girl Costumes

Must See Movie

The critics were not too impressed by George Hickenlooper’s Factory Girl but I was. It is a film on the 60's pop art movement in New York City centered around Andy Warhol's muse, Edie Sedgwick ( my fascination) played by Sienna Miller. The film tells her iconic story of her rise to fame as a NYC socialite and her heart wrenching downfall. The fashion in the film alone will capitivate you, I love 1960's fashion so it was the icing on the cake! Don't let the reviews stop you... go and see for yourself!

The timeless icons

I thought I would start by discussing some of my favourite fashion icons of all time. These are people who embody a unique sense of style that not only reflects the 'it' looks of the season but as well expresses their individuality.

1. Grace Kelly- all time classic, aristocratic and feminine (Hermes Kelly bag).

2. Jackie O- staple boots, sleek mini dresses, and large round sunglasses.

3. Audrey Hepburn- dainty woman that never fails to showcase elegance (trademark hats).

4. Kate Moss- provides the perfect mix of modern, vintage, runway, streetwear--> leader of the pack.

5. Sienna Miller- today's Bohemian babe, gem studded shoes, bold jewellery, breezy caftans

6. Zooey Deschanel- uses her youth wear the latest trends and spins it perfectly with her personal quirks.

7. Kate Hudson- perfectly rounded female. From red carpet glamour, to street chic, to beachy bohmemian and sporty duds, miss Hudson nails them all.

8. Margherita Missoni- apart from being Missoni royalty she consistantly shines with a glow of her own in flirty frocks, and bold accessories.

9. Edie Sedgwick- The lady of the 60's. She wore whatever she felt while out on the town in new york.. sometimes shoeless, sometimes pantless with tights... and forever remembered.
